Excursion Giant's Causeway and Antrim Coast
vendredi, 22 juillet 2011, 12h07 | Giants causeway - La Chaussée du Géant | Ville: Giants Causeway | Irlande du Nord | Giant's Causeway. Renowned for its polygonal columns of layered basalt, the Causeway is considered the Eighth Wonder of the World, and is the only World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland. According to myth, the giant Finn McCool used the basalt columns forming the causeway as stepping stones to travel from Ireland to Scotland to visit his lover, a Scots giantess. Scientists, however, believe the mainly hexagonal columns resulted from cooling lava flows. Since it was first documented in 1693, the Causeway Coast has been the subject of much controversy concerning the origins of the earth. | GPS: 55°14'26.20" N | 6°30'41.78" W | © Marcel Walter Landry | Fichier: IMG_8879.JPG
