Les Landry au Maryland

Maryland et Baltimore
En 1632, est fondée la colonie du Maryland sous l'action de Cecilius Calvert. Elle est baptisée en l'honneur d'Henriette-Marie de France, fille d'Henri IV et reine d'Angleterre. Elle accueille les catholiques persécutés en Angleterre. Des heurts les opposent par la suite aux protestants qui prennent finalement l'ascendant sur la colonie. Le Maryland devient le septième État le 28 avril 1788.

Baltimore
Le 6 novembre 1789 le Diocèse de Baltimore est créé et c'est le premier diocèse catholique des États-Unis. En 1791, l'ouverture du premier séminaire catholique aux États-Unis. Le premier évêque est John Carroll qui a été ordonné prêtre le 14 février 1761 à Liège, Belgique. 1780

À Baltimore en 1780 Georges Landry épouse Marie Madeleine Jandin, fille de Joseph et Rose Hébert. Leur fille Rose Landry naîtra le 25 mars 1785 à Baltimore. Cette Rose deviendra co-fondatrice et la deuxième Mère supérieur des Sisters of Charity of St. Joseph's à Emmitsburg au Maryland. L'autre co-fondatrice et première Mère supérieur de cette congrégation et amie de Rose était Elizabeth Seton, la première sainte de naissance américaine.

Dans la liste des Acadiens déportés au Maryland il y a un seul Georges Landry et il est à Marborough en 1763. On peut lire cette ligne
"françois Landry, Charles Landry, Jacques Et Georges Landry, pélagie Et joseph Landry .....................6" 13 colonies

C'est le même George Landry qui 17 ans plus tard épousera Marie-Madeleine Jandin.

The daughter, Mary Magdalaine, of Joseph and Rose Jeaudain (Jandin or Dine)married George Landry in Baltimore in 1780. Their daughter Rose Landry was born in Baltimore on 23 March 1785. Rose Married Capt. Joseph White at the age of 14. After two children and the death of her husband Rose joined with Elizabeth Seton and established the American Sisters of Charity in 1809. Upon the death of Mother Seton, Rose became head of the order. Rose died 25 Jul 1841 Rose's two children were Charles White bn 31 Aug 1803 and Margaret Mary Anne Bn 10 May 1801. George and Magdalaine also had Margaretmbn 1 Feb 1793 and Pierre George bn 23 Apr 1975 George died 2 Jun 1802.

Pages 57-58 of the book Acadians in Maryland by Gregory A. Wood has the following information about an Acadian who became the second Mother Superior of the Sisters of Charity of St. Joseph's at Emmitsburg, Maryland.

"...Carroll was named archbishop in 1808, at the age of 73, and he was soon blessed by the work of two widows, Elizabeth Seton and Rose Landry White, who joined together to establish the American Sisters of Charity in the summer of 1809. At age 25 and ten years junior to Mother Seton, Rose White was the granddaughter of Joseph and Rose Jeaudain [Jandin or Dine], Newtown, 1763. The Jeaudin's daughter Magdalaine had married George Landry in Baltimore in 1780, and, from this union, came a future Mother Superior of this new order of nuns. Rose Landry was born in Baltimore on 23 March 1785, and, fourteen years later, became the teen bride of a considerably older Capt. Joseph White. After two children and the death of her husband at sea, Rose found a new vocation. In an 1810 letter to Mother Seton, Carroll referred to her repeatedly as "dear Rose," praising her candor and good heart while acknowledging her youthful inexperience..."

Note: Deaths and Interments, Page 361, has the following information about the death of Joseph White,Jr. , husband of Rose Landry :

"White, Joseph Jr. ca. 1804 husband of Rose Landry [later Mother Rose White]. No record can be found of his burial, because he was lost at sea. In Mrs. Seton: Foundress of the American Sisters of Charity, Joseph Dirvin speaks of his death as coming shortly before his only daughter Margaret Mary Ann's passing, 9 May 1804..."

Est-ce Marguerite LeBorgne de Bélisle épouse de feu Étienne Landry, son fils Joseph et 2 filles. Cependant selon White BD elle a épousé Pierre Poirier en 1780. Est-ce le Peter Puree de Baltimore City. Marguerite LeBorgne est décédée en 1799.

Le même Georges Landry, avec son épouse, un garçon et 3 filles. Et son 2ième voisin est un Jacques Landry ayant moins de 26 ans. Ça ne peut pas être son frère Jacques car il aurait 57 ans et de toute façon il est parti pour la Louisiane. Pour l'instant je ne peux pas déterminer qui il est.
